[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Vt100 version 2.9 help needed

gregm@csd4.csd.uwm.edu (Greg Mumm) (03/02/90)

The high speed transfer speed of Z-modem made me decide to upgrade from
Vt100v2.8 to Vt100v2.9. In the past I've used kermit at 1200 baud. It seemed
like such a trivial task at the time to upgrade. I am having problems though,
perhaps some kind soul could help me:

Problem #1:
My kermit transfers won't work any more.
When using Vt100v2.8 I would just select "receive" from the file
menu on the left and presto, a transfer window would open and
the program would get downloaded. The exact steps would be
as follows: 1) type this on the unix system: "kermit -is <foo>"
		        2) select "receive"
			3) wait for long periods of time until program
			   was downloaded!

When the above steps are repeated with Vt100v2.9 nothing happens
when "receive" is selected. No window, nothing. (Cue in
	    twilight zone music ...)
Note: The Vt100.init file is unchanged as is the whole computer setup,
except that vt100v2.8 was replaced with "vt100.noRexx" of course.

Problem#2:
I don't understand how to get Zmodem working.
What should be a rediculously simple task (sz to send, rz to receive)
has turned into a very complex one.
Do I need to have a zmodem.init file present or not? (I have it
set to "1200 8N1", but zmodem doesn't seem to read it.)
Am I supposed to use the "-I" switch with sz, rz? Or am I to assume
that Vt100v2.9 sets up the serial port (or what ever it's
 		doing) ?
	Zmodem sample error messages: ( Amiga -> Unix ) ( <foo> is filename )
rentry0: Awaiting pathname nak for <foo>
( Everything freezes after this... )
Zmodem sample error messages: ( Unix -> Amiga )
		1) using command 'rz' on amiga:
			type "sz on modem program"
( I already DID type it on unix ! )
		2) using command "rz <foo>"
( Why does it accept this at all ? )
			readline: TIMEOUT
			Reentry0: Got sector 00 header.
( several of the above two lines )
			FileTransfer failed.
*Could somebody send me some simple steps to follow. I am
communicating with a unix system. (Am I supposed to
set up some sort of default file on unix ?????)
ANY help at all would be appreciated.

Comment:
Even though sz and rz were kept seperate from the emulator to
save memory and generally make it more powerful I wish that
zmodem could have been integrated into the program like xmodem
	and kermit etc...
