[comp.sys.amiga.tech] "KickBench" questions...

scott@grlab.UUCP (Scott Blachowicz) (05/01/90)

Hi-
I've got an A1000 with a SupraSCSI i/f connected to an external SCSI
drive. I'd like to simulate "auto-booting" by leaving a single disc in
DF0: that can function as both a KickStart disc and a minimal WB boot
disc to xfer control to the HD and setup RAD: for warm-reboots. (or
accomplish "auto-booting" by some other method).

I got the KickBench off of Fish #36, but all it has is disked input
files for KickStart v1.1 and early-release v1.2 discs. I haven't found
an explanation of what it is actually doing to the bytes it it is
changing on the discs...so the questions are...

-Is there any tech docs describing what is on the disc that the ROM
interprets as being a "kickstart" disc?

-What are the KickBench changes to the Kickstart disc really doing? It
seems that one way to accomplish the goal would be to somehow get
KickStart to think that DF0: for the WorkBench disc starts at track
<n> where <n> is after the KickStart part of the disc.

-Does anyone have an appropriate change-list to make it work on a
 KickStart v1.3 disc?

Thanx,

I got mine running this way...ie just enough of a WB to mount DH0:,
defdisk it, and invoke the new S:startup-sequence....works like a
champ...

I got mine off of genie, but if you need it, let me know....

After all, I have to use the A1000 for something now that I have a
2500/30 (love it a lot, and thanks for the second chance at an
upgrade...have seen the 3000...its more sexy, but I have mine NOW.)

No, but there's a 1.3 version of KickBench on our BBS.
