In the benchmark tests presented herein, the prices quoted for the HP 9000 are incorrect (and quite high). From the HP documentation, the price of the system (non-OEM) is; Product Desription Price 9020B HP9000 model 20 base system with $28,250 high performance monochrome display and 'Series 500' single (!!) CPU, 5 1/4" Flexible Disc 9020C HP9000 model 20 base system with $39,855 high performance color display and 'Series 500' single CPU & 5 1/4" Disc 9020S (same as 9020B, but single user $49,945 'Bundled system' 9020T (same as 9020S, but with Color) $65,538 ------ factory installed options ------ 240 256Kbyte RAM Finstrate $3,025 241 2nd I/O Processor $1,010 242 3rd I/O Processor $1,010 610 10Mbyte Fixed Disc Drive w/ 5 1/4".. $4,540 ------ HP-UX Operating System (a licensed super-set of Version 7) ------ 97070 HP-UX Operating System (single user) $2,020 97080 HP-UX Operating System (multi-user) $7,565 (the following are single-user prices) 97071 Fortran 77 Compiler $2,020 97072 HP Pascal Compiler $2,020 97073 IMAGE DBMS $2,020 97074 GRAPHICS/9000 (DGL) $1,000 97075 GRAPHICS/9000 (AGP) $2,000 98163 HPSPICE Circuit Simulation Program $5,000 ------ As can be seen, a super system can be put together for well under the '$88,000' dollars quoted in the benchmark. Note: The technical specs are quite breathtaking for a system that you can buy for under $50,000; 18Mhz clock with 55nsec uinstruction cycle time... and 110 nsec memory access time. The rest of the specs are too numerous to type in, but it is definitely worth a look! (It has better specs than the Perkin-Elmer 3250 I use at work!!!) -- Dave Taylor ..sdcsvax!taylor
