A local member of our (PaNorAMa) user group has run into an "interesting" problem: >| >|I have a dir/Drawer on my harddrive that has mysteriously grown >|thousands (yes 1000's) of files that cannot be deleted or moved. The >|files seem to be an .info file from another dir on the Hdrive. When I >|try to open the dir the machine starts to read and fills the screen and >|then the cli just shuts down. I can't get into it by any means ( >|Diskmaster, Cli, SID, etc.) and can't get rid of it by moving the dir to >|ram: either as the cli locks up again. Is there any solution to this >|problem? When I try to delete the file a error messages says that the >|file was not found. >| >What you've got there is the infamous recursive directory. There _may_ >be a way to fix it with a disk editor, but I don't know how. If you >can't get it to stop pointing back at itself. > Is there a simple solution? Is there an elegant solution? Is there a solution short of backup & reformat? If the solution involves sector editting, can someone supply step by step instructions (or pointers to same)? <-Harvey "Erected to the memory of John McFarlane, Drowned in the Waters of Leith by a few affectionate friends." - Epitaph in Edinburgh Harvey Taylor Meta Media Productions uunet!van-bc!rsoft!mindlink!Harvey_Taylor a186@mindlink.UUCP
