[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Key n already set...

sie@fulcrum.bt.co.uk (Simon Raybould) (06/06/90)

I have the famous Key n already set error on my hard disk.

Last time I got this, I copied all of the files to floppy and re-formatted
the hard disk. The problem with this is that the date stamps are lost.

Is there a better way to patch the file system ?

Is there a backup utility that will preserve the date stamps when
I re-load the files ?

Any help much appreciated..

Try using the "clone" option on both copies (to and from). This preserves
the datestamps and the protection bits.

Yes. I don't know of any good FD hard disk hackers, but DiskMechanic usually
works for me. It also comes with a pretty good manual explaining the
disk organization (both OFS and FFS) that will help you find the problem.

I think most of the backup utilities out there restore the datestamps.
I asked a few months back and the overwhelming choice was Quarterback
for backups. I don't know whether it keeps the timestamps.
