Having tried (and succeeded, after much work) to program several applications
on the stupid 6502, I can agree with everybody. True, it is a cute design
with a fairly regular instruction set that, for some tasks, makes programming
easy. Most of the time, I enjoyed programming with the instructions
provided. But when it comes to doing pointer arithmetic and addressing
large tables, the thing is (almost) completely useless. For controlling
things, it might be ok; but for high-level language support, think twice
and then buy a z80 (or 68000). Yes, I have programmed many microprocessors
and am qualified to make a valid comparison.
