["But Tarzan said those flowers only grow over quicksand pit..."] I've recently installed a GVP '030 33Mhz board (+882 FPU, 4 Megs, 80 Meg Quantum drive) in my A2000 (rev 4.2 motherboard, 1.2 Kickstart ROM), and a couple of odd things have happened: 1) Suddenly, the system won't run properly in a tower configuration anymore; it croaks at odd places during bootstrap. The problem seems to be in the mechanical connections with the memory board, 'cause if I pull the memory-board out, things are okay. I doubt it's heat-related, because I can cause it/fix it just by rotating the A2000 box 90-deg. Keeping my machine horizontal isn't a big deal, but I'm curious if this is known behavior. 2) More annoying, the keyboard stutters from time to time, i.e. I'll hit a key and it will repeat a laaaaaaaaaaaarge number of times. This seems to happen mostly in string/integer gadgets, 'tho I've seen it happen with the CLI a couple times. This also happens only when the '030 is enabled. Is there some compatibility problem with 4.2 motherboards and GVP '030's ? Or maybe it's a 1.2 bug that's exacerbated by a fast CPU ? Anyone else run into it (and fixed it) ? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Art Baker Who needs a disclaimer; I've got plausible deniability.

Any chance you have the Cherry keyboard (function keys are the size of the "Esc" key, rather than the size of the "Alt" key as they are on newer keyboards) and have the "SetCPU FASTROM" MMU setup (this is, apparently, the standard GVP setup). That combination causes problems; the ROM's keyboard code runs too fast for the Cherry's handshake. If you had 1.3 in ROM, you could use the "KEYPATCH" option to put a safe delay into that routine. Unfortunately, the KEYPATCH option doesn't work correctly for 1.2. There are other utilities designed to slow down the keyboard routine which may help you out. Or you could eliminate the FASTROM setup entirely. >Art Baker -- Dave Haynie Commodore-Amiga (Amiga 3000) "The Crew That Never Rests" {uunet|pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh PLINK: hazy BIX: hazy Get that coffee outta my face, put a Margarita in its place!
