[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Hard Disk write/crash/validate problem

dailey@frith.uucp (Chris Dailey) (09/05/90)

I do not yet have a hard drive, but I've seen numerous questions
regarding this, and I've had similar problems with floppies.

When the Amiga crashes during a write to the HD (or floppy), there are
usually some problems when the machine is rebooted and the disk is
accessed again. Sometimes it just has to go through an extra disk
validation. Many times, data is lost. Sometimes the HD needs to be
re-lowleveled and re-formatted.

I've noticed that on MS-DOS machines, there is usually no such trouble,
and a run with CHKDSK /F will usually fix things up. (I work in a PC
lab, and might have nightmares-come-true if they were Amigas with HD's
having this kind of problem.) I realize that the file systems are
different animals, but why would there be so much more trouble using
the Amiga file system than the MS-DOS FS?

Is there anything that could feasably be done to improve this behavior?

(PS - I'm sorry if this is the sort of thing that goes in CSAHardware.)
