              ----------------------------------------------

I'm looking for a few people who'd be interested in helping pinpoint
problems in a software library that I'm developing. The library is a
full "tcp/ip" implementation, including the typical support programs.

To have an effect on this project, I'm looking for certain properties:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

   - Access to a network that runs tcp/ip. This might seem obvious to most
of us, but there're always a few people to whom this thought doesn't
     occur.

   - Actual experience with tcp/ip. I don't demand that you've written
C code in Unix for tcp/ip (that -would- be nice, though!), or anything
like that. However, if you don't know what an "rfc" is, you're
probably not quite at the level of expertise that I'm expecting.

   - An true interest in tcp/ip. If you're interested just because it
would seem "nifty" to FTP from your Amiga, but otherwise don't care,
I don't think you could bear the pain of what will seem to be endless
crashes in development. Someone who just wants a tcp/ip package to
telnet into their University computer such that they can do homework
on the mainframe also isn't exactly what I had in mind.

   - Plenty of time. On new revisions, I would hope that you would get an
opportunity to test the new code within a few days. If you don't think
you could run a test on the code any sooner than two weeks after you
get it, your schedule is probably awfully full as it is. Patience
     goes hand-in-hand with this.

   - Eager to give opinions. It's hard to offend me (outside of explaining
that I and my work have absolutely no virtues), and I'm very much
interested in open opinions on how things should be set up.

A few things that would be nice, but aren't required:
            -----------------------------------------------------

   - A 19.2K (or other) direct serial hookup - no modem involved.

   - Someone using dialup-SLIP with a trailblazer, or other high-speed
     connection.

   - Experience in either C or assembly with the Amiga's OS.

   - Previous experience in testing (alpha, beta, whatever level) software
would be extremely nice. People without previous testing experience
tend to expect miracles in 30 minutes, and are almost always dismayed
at what state of development something is in.

What do YOU get out of the deal?
                     --------------------------------

Unfortunately, there's no pay involved. At my current (student)
income (or lack thereof), I'm lucky to feed myself, much less anyone else.
I guess I like to hope that any lure that this might have would be an
interest to help mold what hopefully will be a freely-distributable
Amiga tcp/ip package. If that's not enough, I'll probably have to ferret
out my errors alone.

If you are interested, you have a variety of options:

   EMail:
      gm@ionic.uucp
      gsm@terminator.cc.umich.edu
      GSMILLER@MTUS5.BITNET
(^^ Yes, I'm a Michigan Tech student. If you're extremely brave, ask
me about the almost laughable policy of allowing computer use around
here. You'll get one h*ll of an earfull.)

   Telephone:
      (906) 482-7295 (Eastern time zone - so please, THINK before you call.)

(As a student, I'm around various hours, but am almost always around
    at night.)

I'd be glad to give you my US-Mail address, but that's almost senseless,
because I have a poor habit of not answering paper-mail. EMail should
nearly always get an answer, and if you want to talk to me bad enough, the
telephone is the way to go.

   Please, Please, PLEASE:

If you either aren't interested, or don't consider yourself a candidate
for alpha-testing, PLEASE don't send me email asking about the project.
"Alpha" is intended to mean "extremely preliminary". It isn't anywhere near
a "Beta" release, either. I haven't even considered a release date, and
couldn't begin to guess at one.

   Thanks!

   - Greg
