[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Telnet/FTP aailable?

ragg0270@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (09/19/90)

Does anybody know the status of commodore's ETHERNET board and software?
We are planning to buy an A2000HD and want to hook up to Ethernet to use
Telnet and FTP. I called Commodore, but I was unable to reach anyone who
had any idea what I was talking about. Will the Commodore software, when and if
it comes out, support Telnet and FTP?

Thanks for any help,

Personally, I think that many users (especially the ones who use UseNet a
lot) know mroe about the Amiga than the typical Commodore rep. that
answers the phone when you call....the same doesn't seem to go for all
the other CBM guys. (read: Dave Haynie and Howard Diamond)

Here at Commonwealth Edison Co., I have 15 Amiga 2500's hooked up with the
A2065 Ethernet boards and yes it does Telnet, ftp, and rlogin. NFS is also
available, but I have not tested it. I think that the latest version will
also include a daemon. More info, call me @(708)691-4747 (Dave Hansen) or
call Dale Luck at gfxBase in Milpatas, CA.

I have just received this week 8 Commodore A2065 Ethernet cards and the
Beta test AS225 TCP/IP Software. Unfortunately, I haven't had any spare
time this week to set it up on our systems. All I've had a chance to do
so far is put in one board and run tests on it (which ran fine).

I will tell you that the SW supports all the standard TCP/IP protocols.
Telenet, FTP, rlogin, ping, ls, chmod, arp, TFTP, rsh, etc.

I'll try to post here when I've got it up and running and let people
know how it's working.

At the moment Commodore here distribute the board, which is exactly the same
as the Ameristar board with (I think) version 3 of the Ameristar software. New
software is due soon, according to the press releases of a few months ago.

The ver 3 software does nfs client stuff and tftp, not sure about telnet.

The Commodore board is almost the same as the Ameristar board. You cannot
use the Commodore board with Ameristar 3.0 software. However, the Commodore
TCP/IP software will work with Ameristar boards.

FTP and Telnet are included in the Commodore software.
