[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Bridgeboard problems

brett@smosjc.UUCP (Brett Coon) (09/25/90)

Several weeks ago I posted about problems I was having with a cable for my AT
Bridgeboard. I now have a seemingly working cable, but my Bridgeboard still
doesn't work.

The symptoms:
1) I get the following message when I try to boot the PC:
Boot failure, check disk and press any key to try again.

2) When I reboot, I used to get the message Drive 0 Configuration Error.
The Bridgeboard manual says this is normal, but it also says that I
should get a message like Default Parameters Loaded that informs me
the system has figured out what drive I have. I only get the error
message. After using the Setup program to tell the system I have a
1.2 Meg drive, I stopped getting this message.

3) When I was trying to boot the system, I noticed that the disk never spins
when the drive select light is on. I get the "grind grind" sounds that
normal PC's make when I reboot, and the drive light comes on, but the
drive doesn't begin spinning until the select light goes out. Then
when the drive is selected a second time after the reboot, the disk
immediately stops spinning until the light goes out again, at which
point it begins spinning and continues for several seconds. If it
makes any difference, I have a Chinon drive with jumpers on the
1,2,10,and 13 positions. My cable is untwisted, so I had to move
the #3 jumper to position #2 to make the drive answer to DS0.

What I've done:
1) I checked the cable with an ohmmeter, and it seems to be fine.

2) I tried two other boot disks, including the one I used to use with my XT
Bridgeboard, but I always get the same message.

3) I removed the Bridgeboard, removed the daughter board, pressed all chips
into their sockets, replaced the daughter board, and tried again.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can diagnose and fix my problem, I'd
really like to hear from you. I have a directory of Amiga software here on
my sun, and I need the Bridgeboard to be able to get it to the Amiga.

Thank you for the information about re-seating all chips in the Bridgeboards
and re-setting the board in a slot, when there are problems with it. I wasn't
the one who asked about this but I do have a related question. I have a B2000
with Commodores '030 board. When I re-boot the Amiga and run ADisk in the
startup-sequence{_, about half of the time it says it can't find the library,
or some other such error. The Janus library is in the expansion drawer and
everything is in the right places because when I reset into 68000 mode it
*always* works. But in '030 mode it only works half the time. Any ideas or
know problems with Commodores '030 relating to the Bridgeboard. Oh yeah, it's
a 2088 not the 286 model. Thank you ahead of time for any help you can give.
