The other day, I had to transfer some rather large files from an IBM PC to an Amiga 2000 (with "old" ROMs and 1.2 AmigaDOS); the largest was around 4 MB. Not having a bridgeboard or anything, I connected the serial ports and used the old 1.0 "convert" & "read" programs to place the files into one FFS partition of my hard disk. No problems. That is, no problems until I turned off the Amiga and rebooted it the next day. Upon accessing that hard disk partition, I got a nice little requester saying "not a DOS disk". OK, I figured, maybe something weird happened during all of that disk I/O; or maybe that 1.0 "read" utility has some sort of weird interaction with the FFS. So I got out DiskSalv to copy the files I transferred over to another partition of my hard disk. Again, no problems *until* I rebooted the Amiga, and discovered that my second partition is also no longer a DOS disk. Are there any known problems with very large files on FFS? If so, just what have I done to my hard disk partitions; can I clean them up with a little Sectorama'ing, or are they probably really trashed out? If not, what else could explain these problems; I've had *no* other problems with my hard disk in the year that I've owned it? If I upgrade to new ROMs and/or 2.0 AmigaDOS, should I be able to recover those files? I feel like I should know the answer to this question, but I only seem to recall hearing about large-file problems with the *OFS*. Thanks for any suggestions. -- Richard ...!hplabs!hpfcmb!carlson
