On the Workbench disk, in the System drawer, there is a program (I firget
the name - never used it) that fixes this and automatically updated your
FONTS: dir.

Ok, I see the problem. The easiest solution is to (since he has
320 megs) is to rename the second set of fonts with
 an 'a' suffix.

 Like disk 1: brick/55/44/33
      disk 2: brick/11/13/9billion

      On the hard drive:

      Fonts:
	brick/55/44/33
	bricka/11/13/9billion
	brick.font
	bricka.font

This *WILL* solve your problem, in a big hurry to, if
you have to please (appease) a client. If you
are unable to find software to do the .font conversion
	this'll work!

like you're trying reeeeeeeeaaaallly hard to get
them fonts on there!! > hehe!

Ok. Now for the _REALLY_ simply solution.

        1. Put all the font files in their correct directories
                ie: fonts:fish/17

        2. Delete all the .font files in the fonts directory
                ie: delete fonts:#?.font

        3. Run FixFonts from the WB1.3 system.

This will completely rebuild the .font files to include all the point
sizes you have.

Two warnings:
        1. This can take a _LONG_ time to do, so be patient.
        2. It only works on 1.3, _NOT 1.2_!! (I don't know if there
                is an equivalent in 2.0)

Phil.

I don't recommend using FixFonts under 2.0 unless you're going out of town
for a few days. For some reason, it's _really_ slow. Don't know why...

Sorry to embarrass you: How about system/FixFonts from the 1.3 WB?

Why doens't someone make _really_ fast FixFont clone, that shows which
.font it's working on.

Rest Easy, it's not on the Extras disk -- it's Workbench1.3:System/FixFonts.

jms@tardis.Tymnet.COM (Joe Smith) (10/16/90)

I ran into another problem concerning too many fonts on the disk. Several
fonts that I had just added did not show up. I tried DeluxePaint-III,
FontWorks, ProWrite, and WB2.0:Prefs/Fonts. Running FixFonts didn't help.
Finally I did "list >prt:" and noticed that all the missing fonts were at
the end of the listing. There were more than 128 *.font files (and the same
number of directories). It looks like several different font requesters
give up after the 256th file in the FONTS: directory.

After moving the cmr* fonts to another directory, I now have only 119
*.font files and 120 directories. Now all the fonts are usable.

Ever try using Excellence! with lots of fonts? The font requestor will
display the first 128 fonts, but you can only get at the first 64 (trying to
select font 65 actually gets you font 1). Bad luck if you normally use
'Times' and this is after number 64.
