[comp.sys.amiga.tech] A590 problems

rooijen@rulcvx.LeidenUniv.nl (A.J. van Rooijen) (10/15/90)

Does anyone experience software problems using the A590? For example if
I use Xoper my Amiga will guru as soon as I exit, although I have opened
a Custom Screen. Are there any known bugs concerning the AutoBoot roms or
the FastFiling system. I happen to have an early version of the A590 (146xx)
The reason I ask this is that I know that the A590 does something with
location 0. In my opinion it should not do that, ie the Imploder will just
hang up if the location isn't zero. To run it I will have to clear the
location first. This indicates that normally, the location is 0. On other
systems with hardcards the location is always 0.

many thanks and greetings

Well, just FYI .. the REASON that some software breaks is usually that the
programmer of that software has a pointer bug.

So if a program will not run with location 0 being ANY value in particular ,
then it is that programmers fault, not the A590's.

Report this to the manufacturer. It is a bug.

Certainly shouldn't. It's a known bug in an early FFS version. I seem
to remember the 1.3.2 update containing a fixed FFS.

It's a fault on *BOTH* programs - you may call it a binary bug, it takes
another bug to expose the first one. VirusX, JRComm e.a. have this 'using
$0 as pointer' bug that shows when something weird is in $0.

So true. VirusX and JRComm where fixed. So is FFS - get it, and you're
all set.
