[comp.sys.amiga.tech] CG fonts

amiga@walt.cc.utexas.edu (Paul) (10/16/90)

I am trying to write a program that deals with Compugraphic fonts and have
had no luck in finding info. on how to use these fonts. Simply I need to find
a good book on CG fonts. Does CATS publish anything on them?

Thanx in advance

I'm also interested in finding out how Compugraphic fonts works, so a
public reply from anyone that has the info to all of us might be a good
idea.

From the LaserJet III Technical Reference Manual:

Creating Intellifont-compatible Fonts Using the AGFA Compugraphic FAIS
Standard

This document provides information for designing scalable fonts using
AGFA Compugraphic's Font Access Interchange standard. This document
can be obtained from AGFA Compugraphic by writing to the address below
    or by phone.

I assume that the FAIS standard is independent of output device (screen or
printer).

I talked to them by phone, and my impression was that creating fonts from
the method described in the FAIS document would be a major undertaking.
Apparently, they also have some kind of shortcut method, but it requires either
paying an exorbitant license fee, or being an HP-approved developer and
participating via the HP license.
