While installing my new SUPRA 2MB memory board in my B2000, some chip must have been fried, as this is what I experienced: On random intervalls, the screen shows only the background colo(u)r, and keyboard and mouse do not seem to work anymore. However, multitasking is still alive, as it once occured while MED was playing (and it continued), and the drives are still clicking (most times). The history: - I tested my Amiga before installing the board to make sure that everything works fine. Ok - I installed the Supra board in TEST mode, ran the SupraRAMTest program, while playing with multitasking. Ok - I switched the jumper from TEST to RUN mode (the Amiga turned and plugged off). I booted, started a few programms, and a few minutes later, the screen suddenly got the background colo(u)r. I rebooted, same scenario. It took more or less time to lock up. - After lots of trials, that is the current state: I removed the SUPRA board. It locks up very early, usually I don't even get the initial workbench screen. But it doesn't seem to always freeze at the same place. Hints: The machine is a B2000 Rev4.3, Kick1.3, 512K Chip, 512K Slowmem, A2088 (bridgboard), Kronos controll with 80MB Quantum, running AmigaDOS/ARP 1.3 and Conman. I'pretty sure this is not a virus (especially not the SCA which blanked the screen), because a virus infection does not fit the above scenario, unless it's a very new and tricky one. (And where should the virus come from?) When I boot from HD now, the amiga SELDOM works until it opens the initial screen. It happens sometimes, though. It says "(C) Amiga, ... [CLI 2] (which must be run execute startupII or arun setclock load from my startup-sequence)", then it locks up. When I click the left mouse button during boot, the HD is made unknown to DOS, and I MOST OFTEN get the WorkBench hand. When I insert a floppy, the screen blanks and the light of the drive stays on. Sometimes I don't even get the Workbench hand. MOST TIMES, the amiga does not seem entirely dead, because I can hear the clicking of the drives. Any help appreciated... I wrote >While installing my new SUPRA 2MB memory board in my B2000, >KS1.3, 512K Chip, 512KSlowmem, Kronos controler with 80MB Quantum, >and bridgeboard, some chip must have been fried, as this is what I >experienced: >... After further experience, I realized that all that happened is that the Kronos controler does not like to live elsewhere than in the first expansion slot. When I put it in the 2nd one (w or w/o the SUPRA RAM board), screen blanks very soon and keyboard does not seem to work any more (except for C-A-A), but MED still plays music and DF0: still clicks, and when put in the third one, things get even worse (the described phenomenon in my previous posting). So I moved the Kronos back to the first slot, the SUPRA RAM board to the second slot, and left the bridgboard in the 4th one. But then again I get those weird colored squares on the the PC screen when I try to run AMouse. That doesn't seem to be the case when the Kronos is in the second slot, but then I can't really tell because the computer freezes soon. I would really like to put RAM in slots before the controler, because the controler would then use expansion and not (dear) chip mem.
