[comp.sys.amiga.tech] SerServer and modem problems

drtiller@uokmax.ecn.uoknor.edu (Donald Richard Tillery Jr) (11/17/90)

I'm running a pseudo-BBS part time on my machine when I'm not around.
(I have over 165 Meg on line) and I decided to use SerServer because
I didn't want to have to re-organize my system to make room for
duplicates of all my files in a BBS area. With SerServer, the caller
can look around my drives, find what he wants, archive it on my
machine and then download it. No annoying archived files of files I
use regularly hanging around. GREAT!

Here's the problem. One of my friends has some weird brand of 4800
baud modem. The best I can figure out is that it sends some sort of
(speed?) code after connection and all that garbage locks up SerServer.
SerServer also locks up if anyone types while it's sending stuff (a
directory for instance) so I figure the two problems are related. I've
tried to contact the author via CServe, but he must only get on there
once in a blue moon (it's about chartreuse now ain't it? :-). If
anyone out there knows how I can filter out all those odd characters or
some other way of un-confusing SerServer, or can get in touch with the
author (he even has a Canadian unlisted number and I HATE snail mail),
please help me out and I'll greatly appreciate it.
