At Comdex Paul Calkin said the following: "We will provide a DEVELOPERS SYSTEM to any insterested institution (college) or individual (corporate or other) who wants to begin the porting process of an application to the Amiga 3000UX/D (1 Mega Chip, 8 Meg FAST, 200 MB Hard drive, Ethernet card, 25Mhz 68030) with a special price of $4999 which will include the multiscan 1950 monitor. This monitor will support the graphic and color ehancements provided by the A2410 UofL board to be shipped later after launch of Amiga UNIX sVr4 at UNIFORM in Dallas." "The DEVELOPERS SYSTEM will have the complete UNIX V Sr4 package as Beta 2, both AmigaDOS 1.3 and 2.1 and have network support. The system will have a full year of upgrades for both operating systems built-into the price." "The DEVELOPERS SYSTEM (Amiga 3000UX/D) is available by contacting the regional offices of Commodore's Education Sales group: Western Region: (818) 596-2194 or FAX to (818) 716-2617 Central Region: (708) 619-5959 or (312) 527-4646 or FAX (708) 438-3942 EMAIL: Schevker@cbmvax.commodore.com Terry Schevker, Central Regional Sales Manager Eastern Region: (215) 540-4205 or FAX to (215) 540-4105 EMAIL: Stu@cbmvax.commodore.com Stuart Maleeff, Eastern Regional Sales Manager "Commodore will build these units in December, so interested developers and institutions should contact our regional offices as soon as possible to insure shipment." "There are some exiting software applications in the works, but I want to see a lot more products brought over to the Amiga 3000UX/D this coming year." When asked about Virginia Tech's beta site operation, Paul Calkin confirmed that VPI would be upgraded during the January semester break when the other 9 college sites would receive the next release. Some notes: 1) Yes Virginia, there is a 2.1. It is mainly improved to allow for better access to either AmigaDOS or Unix by choice. I know nothing else. My guess is that when 2.0 is released it will be called 2.1. 2) This system is available to anyone. If you are not a student or an insituition, essentially just pay the $75 developer price and you qualify. 3) No word on the University of Lowell A2410 board. It probably won't be out until the Unix machine is actually launched. 4) You will receive free system updates (both AmigaDOS and Unix) for one year after the purchase. The warranty is also one year.
