[comp.sys.amiga.tech] My HAMs have measles!

jsevinsk@digi.lonestar.org (John Sevinsky) (11/27/90)

When I first turn on my Amiga 500, I can display HAM picutres (using superview
or whatever) and they look great. But after a while, these little red dots
the size of one pixel appear in several places. Some are solid red, and others
flash. If there is activity with my hard disk, the number of dots increases.
Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this?

I had the same problem. Whenever I turned my computer on, no matter how many
bit planes there are, there was always one color register that would flicker
all different colors. When the drive was accessed, it got worse. When
compiling source code, it went away. I also started getting distorted raster
lines that took up half the screen. I took it to the repair shop, and was
told it only needed to be cleaned. I have not had the problem again (since
about three weeks, although it had started about two months earlier). I
noticed that once the computer warmed up, it went away, so I assumed that the
chips were heating up. Well, no more problems, and it cost me $30 (and
I am glad it only cost $30). :)
