[comp.sys.amiga.tech] SLIP. Amiga - UNIX.

Hey-Ho,

I had a few queries about setting SLIP up from Amiga to Unix.

(No-one has told me where to find 'devstub.asm' from KA9Q yet though)

Anyway, The KA9Q package is basically one program called 'net' that can
handle SLIP connections.
The version I got (AmigaTCP on Fish disk 225) seems pretty old but it works.
No installation instructions (except for IBMPC), but it is pretty straight
forward.

In order to make the thing work, you need to :-

1) Install the software on the Amiga.
2) Get your IP address and work out the commands that need to go in
	's:net-sequence' (The startup commands)
3) Using a terminal package, login to the Unix machine and start the SLIP
	(Unix end).
4) Exit the terminal program and the fire up 'net'
5) Things should start happening.

Performance seems pretty average for SLIP connections.
Functionality is really lacking. 'smtp', 'telnet' and 'ftp' are the only
things you can use. (Which is why I need the last source file I don't have')

They didn't really use the Amiga to its fullest. The SLIP could have been done
by a separate process and send messages to the process. This would mean
that all the neat tcp/ip and other could easily be ported.

It is good having multiple connections though.

See ya, PeterK.

PS: I am connecting to a Silicon Graphics Personal IRIS.

If you can't have an IRIS at home,
have the next best thing, an Amiga !!!
