[comp.sys.amiga.tech] VD0:, and Amipress

bacon@zeus.unomaha.edu (Infomaniac) (12/21/90)

I recently dl'ed the ASDG VD0 (recoverable ram) and the prog RecovRam disk and
have tried them out. Unfortunately they won't "recover" on my machine.

I have an A1000 with the Amazing Computing hack ram installed for a total of
1 meg. (BTW it's amazing how small 1 meg becomes once you're used to it!)

In fact, with VD0 I kept getting "Disk has read/write error" requestors. How
frustrating. Am I stuck with RAD:, is there a bug to this, or is the problem
with my config? My hunch is in the fact that the ram is neither chip nor fast
ram and that at bootup it has to be "added" using the ADDRAM program.

I also have another problem, question. Does anyone know how to properly
uncompress .z files using the new prog Amipress, or with Compress.lzh? Compress
keeps crashing my machine when I try to uncompress and, for some reason, DOS
won't recognize the Amipress "uncompress" prog as a DOS command or executable.

So many ftp sites use Unix .z compression that I need to figure this out.

Thanks for any and all help. This group is ALWAYS great in its response to
questions :-) ;-)
