[net.micro] How easy is it to deal with the VIC-20 interface?

I have a friend who is thinking about getting a VIC-20 with the intention of
trying to interface it to his ham radio gear.  Does anyone know how easy it is
to deal with the interface on a VIC-20?  Any details and experiences would
