Cliff Hooker of Newcastle University in NSW Australia asked me to post the following: ======================================================================== UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE (AUSTRALIA) DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY RESEARCH ASSISTANT Professor C.A. Hooker invites expressions of interest in assisting with research on: the relevance for models of rationality of non-formal (=non- logico-computational) models of order, especially models of self-organizing systems in biology, control engineering and cognitive science. The successful candidate will have a commitment to mastering theories in these fileds, which include iterated boolean valued nets, tunable connectionist (`neural') nets, negentropy and relaxation models. (S)He will also have a commitment to mastering contemporary issues in formal models of rationality in theories of scientific method, including decision theoretic models. Research will be on a mutually collaborative basis within an established overall plan and direction. Applicants are invited to describe their relevant expertise and to express any research interests they may have. Renumeration, within available Australian Research Council funding, will be dertemined by qualifications. Therse should minimally include a strong honours degree in philosophy or other relevant field. Both post-doctoral and doctoral candidates are encourged to apply.
