[comp.theory.dynamic-sys] Hailstone Numbers and Chaos

rdb@scs.carleton.ca (Robert D. Black) (06/26/91)

A discussion of the hailstone numbers can be found in:

"Complexity, Undecidability and Chaos: a Class of
Dynamical Systems with Fractal Orbits"; Corrado Agnes
and Mario Rasetti. page 3 of:

"Workshop on Chaos and Complexity", 1987, edited by
	 R.Livi, S.Ruffo, S.Ciliberto and M.Buiatti. Published
by World Scientific (Singapore). Q172.5.C45 W926

The article claims that the hailstone numbers are chaotic,
and that the problem of determining whether the sequence
terminates in a <1,4,2,1> cycle is undecidable.
