PSU HP 28S USERS GROUP
9 November 1989 Meeting Notes
o Turnout: 9 (4 EE, 4 ESci, 1 CmpEn)
[The number of people attending was affected by a lack of publicity
and by several conflicting exams.]
o Our next meeting will be held on Thursday 16 November 1989 at 7:00 PM
in 222 EE East (IEEE Office). Everyone is welcome to attend. This
next meeting will be widely publicized, notably also in the math and
physics departments.
o We will investigate the possibility of becoming a legitimate Penn State
student organization (under ASA), so we can get money to do all sorts
of fun things.
o A library of programs for the 28S (a lot of which originated here)
will be on file in the IEEE Office beginning next week.
o We will be contacting people at HP to get support (discounts, books,
helpful hints, inside news, etc.).
o The objectives of the users group are
1. To serve as a resource for students who wish to learn how to use
their HP 28S calculators;
2. To serve as a resource for students with specific problems or
projects;
3. (Last for now, but certainly not least!) To be a fun and interesting
organization.
o The possibility of coercing administration to use some of the tuition
surcharge that engineering students pay toward discounts on HP 28S's.
This would eliminate the inequality which now exists in the classroom
(we 28S-ers having an extreme advantage over others), and would also
allow tests to concentrate more on "engineering" rather than on
mathematical problems.
