Actually, Anderson-Jacobson announced a 212-compatible acoustic coupler about 18 months ago, but it has not made a big splash in the market to my knowledge. I agree that the 3400 will probably fade away over the next few years. One of their strongest points, the acoustic coupler, has become much less important as more and more telephones are installed with modular (rj11-c) jacks, thus making a direct-connect modem much more practical.
