My dept. has recently bought the Atari Portfolio to see if it's a viable platform for network trouble shooting in the field. So far we have been impressed with the system itself, and it's overall usefulness. Today we will be uploading a special set terminal programs to get data from our remote RS-232 based nodes on campus. What we are interested in though, is two things. First, the box it comes in claims that it is expandable to 640K. Is this through a card or expansion bus, or is it internal? What we need to know is, can we use the RAM card drive, and our serial port, and still have 640K? If anyone has any details on the RAM expansion, I would greatly appreciate a response. Second, I saw a review on a pocekt Ethernet adapter that works off of the parallel port. I know it runs cheapernet, and the company is sending me info as we speak. Has anyone seen or worked with the product(the companies name is Xortec?)? If so how much memory does the drivers take up? Could it run on a 128K computer, with a slow parallel port(ie the portfoilio)? If I get suffcient request, I can post my findings on how this remote terminal and test system works. Shawn C.
