I just recently bought a Psion Organizer II CM. It's a handheld computer with an alphabetic keyboard and a 16x2 display, 8K RAM and two EPROM/PROM sockets. It was introduced back in 1986 and seems to have been targeted for the pocket calculator/black book market although it also has a procedural language. Mine came with a 25,000 word dictionary EPROM. Right now I'm trying to find accessories for it, or if possible the 32K version (Model XP). If anyone has one of these machines or knows of anyplace selling them or the accesories, I would like to hear from you. When I opened up the machine I found that the EPROM module has a whole bunch of chips in it besides the EPROM, it's not something that could just be thrown together. The RAM is surface mounted, and like everything else not socketed. There do seem to be some empty areas for perhaps more RAM. The expansion connector for RS-232 (and probably AC power, the bar code reader and card reader) is a mystery. If I have too I'll open it up and get out a multimeter. Psion is a British company and seems to not have any US distributors still selling their product. I would be grateful if someone could at least tell me if the campany is still in business and if there is anyway I could contact them here in the US. If someone in London could try their phone number I would appreciate it. Psion is alive, well, and doing some interesting things. There are lots of goodies available for the Organiser -- EPROM and RAM packs, software modules, RS-232 adaptors, printer, s/w development kits -- and more are in the pipeline.
