1) My serial number on my HP48SX is 3003A00256. Does this mean my calulator
is the 256th one off the line?

I was pleasantly shocked to find that the 48's were available in Canada so
soon.

Perhaps. The first four numbers of HP serial numbers tell you when the
product was manufactured. The 30 stands for 1990, while the 03 stands
for the third week of HP's fiscal year, which I believe starts Nov 1.
In other words, 3003 means that your calculator was manufactured the
third week of November 1989.

The A means made in America. (S = Singapore (sp?))

The last five digits are the individual unit numbers, but they may be
batch numbers, I do not know for sure.
