>"There are too many postings about machine _X_ and not enough about >_my_ machine _Y_" sounds to me like sour grapes. It was okay when the >HP-28S was king of the heap, but once another machine becomes more >popular for postings, it's not? When did comp.sys.handhelds become >comp.sys.hp28? > Sean Malloy | ". . . They always have an air > Navy Personnel Research & Development Center | of cheap melodrama about them." > San Diego, CA 92152-6800 | "You will find, my dear, that > malloy@nprdc.navy.mil | _true_ melodrama _never_ comes > | cheap." I have no problem with the 48sx or whatever on this forum. But I am more than a little irritated by the ridiculous number of "HP28S for sale" postings. This to me is pure NOISE and does NOT belong here. It seems somewhat silly to post a notice that your hp28 is for sale, when the majority of those reading this forum are probably hp28 owners. There are more effective ways to sell something like a calculator. Ordinarily, I would keep my mouth shut, but I, like many other computer mailbox owners have JOBS. I usually read my mail before time to start work. If I have 15 to 20 messages about the hp28 for sale, I lose a lot of my precious little free time deleting these when it could be better spent reading the meaningful postings. Yes, I own an hp28s, and it saddens me that it may now be considered obsolete, but it's not the end of the world. Heck, I haven't begun to exploit its power and probably never will. What amazes me is that SO MANY hp28s users suddenly have the NEED to get rid of their '28's. The only explanation I have, (and I'm occasionally guilty of this), is that we are easily sucked into the world of "gadgetry". There is a forum strictly for the hp28c and hp28s (HP-28@NDSUVM1). Many of these postings make it to that forum. IMHO, no HP48 stuff belongs on that forum and should either have its own or stay here in handhelds. There is no need for animosity between users. After all, when the trees have been felled, what remains is that we are dealing with very fancy calculators (rudimentary pocket computers if you're picky). But, the bottom line is that they're all just GADGETS to most of us. Besides, except for portability, NONE of these nifty goodies will EVER match or exceed the abilities of my trusty AMIGA. :-) :-)
