I've been fooling around a bit with the random number generator on the HP48sx, trying to test just how good it is. (A pseudo-random number generator is good if it produces a sequence of numbers that has the same statistical properties as a sequence that really is random.) Knuth lists 10 different tests for random number generators; I've already performed the easy ones, and the HP48sx passes them nicely. Rather than my doing all the other tests, does someone out there know any details about the algorithm? If it's a linear congruential algorithm, in particular, what are the magic numbers? -- +===================+======================+================================+ | | 1509 Hearst St. #103 | austern@lbl.bitnet | | Matthew Austern | Berkeley, CA 94703 | austern@ux5.lbl.gov | | | (415) 644-2618 | matt@cosmic.berkeley.edu | +===================+======================+================================+
