I know microsoft makes XENIX does anyone know anything about it?
Can someone give me a phone number for Microsoft so I can talk to them
about it.

I am the new proprietor of a XENIX system on a TRS-80 Mod 16.
It was an easy install, and has the advantage that I can boot
it from hard disk, or run CP/M-80 (mine is Pickles & Trout),
or CP/M-86 (TRISOFT) from a floppy disk bootup (although neither
can access the hard disk since it is formatted for XENIX).

It seems to run Version 7 + vi as an additional editor. Whether
it is Bell version 7 or Berkeley version 7 I don't know.

I would be grateful for help in the following areas:

1. Is there a directory accessible via ARPANET with useful
C utilities (other than UMODEM, TMODEM, CPMUTL, USQ, SQ and
TYPE which I have via MC:AR43;CPM)?

2. Any ideas on how I can get at the LPR program or some table
somewhere to reconfigure the line printer from the parallel port
to a serial printer on a serial port? Does it work like TERMCAP
and if so, where is the definition file?  (I have a binary system;
no sources.)

3.Is there a public domain FORTRAN77 and/or BASIC compiler in
C that I can port to my machine? In their wisdom, these were
excised from the XENIX 'program development system' which only
comes with C in the current Radio Shack version, although they
do include the FORTRAN to RATFOR and inverse utility commands.

4.Is there a document on v7 that will tell me how to be an
'intelligent' system manager and how to do various useful things
not documented in the basic XENIX manuals. Radio Shack provides
only the most rudimentary information on that, plus the standard
Bell reference manual (Microsoft's X(erox)(enix) copy), a
collection of reprints for users, a nice user's introduction manual
which does not touch much on systems customization, and the
afore-mentioned rudimentary operations manual).

Answers to me, please; I will summarize for the net.

Thanks; STERNLIGHT@ECL
