[comp.sys.handhelds] 48sx -> mac hp interface SOMEONE AT HP READ THIS, PLEASE!

broe@plains.UUCP (Paul Broe) (06/09/90)

Well, I got the interface kit today. One thing, though: I thought there was
supposed to be software to control the 48sx from the computer. The interface
kit I got has a disk in it with kermit and some 48sx programs, but no
program to allow control of the 48sx from the computer (Mac SE in this case.)

Did I imagine this software? What's the story?

If it matters, the disk is:

HP 82209A Serial Interface Kit Disk Version 1.0

Is there a new version? (I'm mailing the registration tomorrow.)

Hello MacUsers:

Version 1.1 of the HP Serial Interface Kit for Macintosh has the
following addition to the KERMIT.TXT file:

CONTROLLING THE HP 48 FROM THE COMPUTER
----------------------------------------
The HP 48 can be controlled from the computer by the REMOTE HOST command.
This example assumes that you've connected the serial cable both
to your calculator and to the modem port in the Macintosh. Any command
sent to the HP 48 needs to be in upper case (CAPS). The calculator's stack
will be displayed on the computer's display after each REMOTE HOST command.

Calculator Keystrokes:

1. [right shift][I/O]
Puts the HP 48 in Server mode.

Macintosh Instructions:

1. Double-click the Kermit icon.
2. Select Communications from the Settings menu.
3. Select 9600 baud.
4. Select Host from the Remote menu.
5. Type the COMMAND or the data you wish to send.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as necessary to send additional information.
7. To quit, press [ATTN] on the HP 48 and select Quit from the File menu
     on the Macintosh.

For example:
Complete the first 4 steps listed above. Runs Kermit protocol and
                                             prepares to send information.

Type 'X^3-4*X^2+X-10' Sends equation to HP 48 stack.

Repeat step 4 and type 'X' Sends the variable X.

Repeat step 4 and type 10 Sends the number 10.

Repeat step 4 and type ROOT Sends the ROOT command.

The calculated root of the equation is returned to the computer's display
(4.30691319972).
Complete step 7 to quit.
