Well, looks like it's time to let all of you Usenetters in on my deal
here, too. I originally posted this message on the HP Bulletin Board
(1-503-750-4448) about a week ago...)

Having trouble finding those little four pin connectors for your
HP-48's serial port? Well, your troubles are now be a thing of the
past! Because of the high demand for these items, and the <very>
limited availiability of them to many people, I've decided to kind-of
second source them to anyone who wants one. To get yours, send $1 to:

                             Joel Kolstad

                       Middleton, WI 53562-3609

You'll receive the proper molex connector, 5 crimp pins (in case you
screw one up), and a sheet describing how to put together your own
serial cable. Currently, the sheet describes the set up for standard
DB25 and DB9 connectors. If anybody wants to send me the pin outs for
any other connectors (like the Mac mini-dins, etc.), I'll add them to
the sheet.

Quite bending your pins! Get your connector today!

Well, folks, I have some bad news for everybody who has ordered a connector from me recently... It seems that the connectors I WAS using are NOT the proper ones -- Molex #22-01-2041 housings do NOT have 2mm spacing on the pins. Too bad. I was just about to send out a bunch of these when I caught this... I apologize for this inconvenience, and am doing everything in my power to try to find the RIGHT connector. Preston Brown helped a good deal by giving me the exact demensions of the serial port -- now most places I talk to have at least a vague idea what I'm talking about! After making a few million phones calls today, it LOOKS as though I AM going to be able to get the proper connectors. However, I'm not 100% sure of this yet (...got to 5PM REAL FAST today...), so don't cross your fingers just yet. I'll know by the end of this week whats up, and will keep you all posted. Of course, if I'm unable to get the right thing, you'll all get you money back with my apologies. Again, I'm very sorry that this has occurred. I made the bad assumption that if someone says a certain connector fits, that must be the case. The connectors I've used on my own personal cables came from different sources that no longer exist. Finally, THANK YOU to everybody who sent in more than the $1 I requested. Although the $1 does cover the connector cost, the extra helps a LOT when it comes to making long distance calls! B.T.W., anybody mind puke beige connectors? :-) ---Joel Kolstad kolstad@cae.wisc.edu
