This questions seems to pop up every now and then. Just like the 'How do I
roll my own rs232 cable' question. Maybe it would be a good idea to compose
a 'frequently asked questions' list that is posted on a regular basis.

What do you think of the idea?

I think it's splendid, especially as I've been one of the frustrating
frequent masses.

I'd be willing to put it together and post it on the 15th of each month.
Please email ideas & contributions to me.

I agree that the time is ripe to begin a regular posting of
"Answers to Frequently Asked Questions." The introduction of the HP-48SX
has generated a bunch of these. To the two questions already suggested, I
would add two more: (1) How can I FTP to the HP BBS? (answer: you can't),
and (2) Where are HP programs archived?

Since this newsgroup is unmoderated, it will be important for all
of us to agree on a "moderator" for the ATFAQ posting. I would like to
nominate Mr. Gariepy and/or Mr. Wickes, arguably two of the most
knowledgable participants in this newsgroup. Gentlemen?

By the way, I am still awaiting a knowledgable answer to *my*
recent question -- "How can you enter alpha mode from within a running
program on the HP-48?" The answer I have received from four different
people so far (i.e., "I don't have the manual here, but I think you can
set one of the system flags") is not correct. Flag -60 selects or
deselects (?) alpha *lock* mode, but does not itself turn alpha mode on. I
have begun to conclude that, in fact, one *cannot* turn alpha mode on from
a program -- a terrible oversight, if true! Mr. Wickes?

I like it. Those folks who already know the answers can put an entry in
their auto-kill file to kill articles with the "frequently asked
questions" subject line each time they start this news group.

I offered to do it. If no one else steps up, my first post will be on
15 August. Please email me with suggestions & comments.

If someone more experienced wishes to do it/edit it, I wouldn't be
offended.

Just let me know.

I've a rough draft set up available via email for interested parties.

Ouch. I'd like to know, too.

Thx.
