[comp.sys.handhelds] HP48 Users Group

lowersbp@ingr.com (Ben P Lowers) (08/15/90)

Is there a Users Group established for the HP48 owner?
I am specifically interested in a newsletter which
describes/reports bugs in the HP48's ROM and ROM upgrades.

Any help/info would be appreciated.

Preferably e-mail vs. this newsgroup, but it will do...

Ben Lowers asks if there is a user group for the HP48. At the moment, the
only two English-language periodicals dedicated to HP handhelds is
(1) Datafile (from the British HPCC group)
    Approximately 30 pages/issue, 8 issues per year
    Contact:
     Membership Secretary David Hodges
     16 Finland St.
     Norway Do
     Surrey Quays
     London SE16 1TP
     England.

Cost to U.S. is 33 British pounds for airmail to U.S. or 27 pounds for
surface mail (which I don't recommend since it takes months) for one year
of membership. The content is excellent, and covers lots of HP handheld
products, probably increasing their HP48 coverage as the machine becomes
plentiful in Europe.

(2) The Forty Eight Forum (published by SMI)
No. of pages still increasing - first issue in June was 8 pages, the
second issue this month was 12. I suspect this will increase further.
Scheduled to publish 6 issues per year.
    Contact:
     The Forty Eight Forum
     c/o SMI
     250 West New Street
     Suite 48
     Kingsport Tennessee 37660

phone 615-378-4821 (they accept credit card phone orders)

Cost is $25.00 per year. This is dedicated solely to the HP48 and its
related products, and is looking pretty good.

The HPX group coming out of Chicago published 7 issues of the HPX Exchange
newsletter, but seems to be defunct of late.

There are also local clubs which meet periodically to discuss HP handhelds.
For instance, I know of clubs in Southern California, Chicago, S.F., Puget
Sound and Philadelphia area (the one which is near me). Our Philly group
meets monthly at Drexel University and has been doing so since 1978.
