                           Fax BBS

Barry Altman (414) 242-4243 (Mequon, WI) is setting up a fax
BBS to go online October 1st. The way it works is that you call
(414) 242-5112 with your fax machine, follow the voice prompts
(browse the menu) by pressing numbers on the phone, and then when
you find an article of interest 'download' it by pressing a code,
and out it pops on your fax machine.

The general areas are: applications, articles, books,
hardware, programming services, software, and want ads. Each
area has groups; for instance under software might be Software-
HP48-Mathematics. There are downloadable catalogs for the
groups, and a catalog of catalogs.

As implied by the above example, the system does supports
the HP48.

The board's main purpose is to allow people with no access
to computer networks (but often have access to the company fax
machine) to nonetheless have access to information. It is aimed
at third party developers of HP48 hardware and software
(shareware, public domain, and bookware) products to disseminate
information especially to those with no other access method.

Folks wanting to place product ads or want ads, or have any
general questions should call (414) 242-4243. I will post more
details in a week or so - fax bbs -

A few points of fax worth remembering:
   Most people fax complete strangers.
Most older people didn't fax when they were young.
Faxing yourself will not make you go blind or deaf.
There are public places where you can legally go and pay for fax.
Indiscriminate fax can cause very high telephone bills.
