[comp.sys.handhelds] Many. Thanks, and a few new ones....

ram@tellabs.com (Bob Martin) (10/09/90)

Thanks to all the people who have replied to my many questions. I will
summarize for those who are interested (or for FAQ if it ever gets posted):

1) flickering display - Don't use under flourescent light.

2) can't get all memory back - PICT uses some, last stack, last arg, etc.
ON-C gets it all back (except for variables)

3) stopping TAYLR gone mad - many people corrected me that ON-C does halt
any operation, but doesn't erase variables.

4) To Amiga owners - I will be mailing lists out Tue. or Wed. Thanks for
			all the replies.

5) To Povl Pedersen (or whoever was asking) - Integral of exp(-.5*y^2)
still can't be done symbolically, but does converge.
			It converges to approx. 1.2538.

Some new questions:
1) I am about to get the IBM serial cable, w/o software, for my AMIGA.
I already have kermit for AMIGA, but the ads for the software in the
serial kit mention something about being able to send commands to
the 48 over the serial cable, and getting the results back over the
cable. Is this really what the software does, and if so, has anybody
	ported it to the AMIGA?

2) I have read about a program (written by Dr. Wickes, I think) called ASC
that converts ASCII to HP.ASCII and vice versa. Does this come with
the serial cable (if yes, does AMIGA version exist?), or does it exist
under UNIX (could someone post it?)?

3) How can I get to all these archives if I don't have access to ftp?
I have a modem at home, so any info is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Re: using HP48 serial cable.
Anyone contemplating the HP48 serial cable for the ibm pc without the
software should know a few things.
1. the 9 pin to 25 pin adapter is also not included. (the cable has a
DB9 female connector on the pc end)
2. even if you get the software kit, the DB25 part of the adapter is
female. Amiga 1000 serial ports are female.
3. anyone venturing into uncharted rs232 territory should have both types
of gender changers and a null modem adapter.
.
Re: HP48 commands from remote host.
A number of people have reported playing with this. No one has reported it
being the least bit useful as a several key kermit command must be typed for
every HP48 command typed.
