[comp.sys.handhelds] Hand-helds Users' Clubs

john@solvint.UUCP (10/11/90)

Ok,

I have at least two answers to my questions about the mailing-list. It is
currently gated to the comp.sys.handhelds newsgroup one-way, list to group, but
not vice versa. I can live with that.

On another topic/issue, I get inquiries quite often about the locations of
``local'' users' groups for the HP hand-helds. I have no way to know who is set
up and where other than Wlodek's periodic posting of his users' club list. And
while that list is very helpful, it does not include state-wide of city-wide
users' groups in the US and Canada, which is where most of the questioners
originate.

What I'm getting at is that I wouldn't mind being the keeper of the list if all
of you university and high-school users' clubs want to let me know who you are
and what you're doing. I'll give out the information to whoever asks and try to
keep in touch so that we all know if you change your status. I could probably
also be talked into periodically posting the information to the mailing-list.

Here's an entry for the Users' Club list:

The Philadelphia Area HP Handheld Club (PAHHC) is an informal group that
meets roughly monthly (currently on weekday evenings) at Drexel University
in Philadelphia to discuss HP handhelds in all aspects. We have been in
existence since the Summer of 1978. Our mailing list currently has 35
names and is on the upswing since the advent of the HP48. We have also
recently affiliated ourselves as the HP Handheld SIG in the Philadelphia
Area Computer Society (PACS), which meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month
also at Drexel. We might just add a second monthly meeting on PACS' Satur-
day to attract more interested folks.
Our next meeting (in case anyone is interested) is on Wednesday evening,
October 24th at 7 PM at Drexel's Disque/Stratton Hall on 32nd St. between
Market and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia. Signs will be posted in the
breezeway between the two buildings as to which meeting room we're using.
The topics of the meeting will be a demo of Jim Donnelly's new HP48
Programmer's Toolkit and a full HP16C Emulator for the HP48 which is under
development.
Our group has no dues or fees, and usually provides a multi-page
handout at each meeting.
