I TRIED TO LOAD THE ->ASC AND ASC-> PROGRAMS GIVEN UNDER ITEM 887 BY RAY RISCHPATER AND MY SYSTEM STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE POWER. WHEN I TURNED THE 48 BACK ON, ALL MEMORY WAS LOST (INCLUDING ALL OF MY PROGRAMS SINCE MARCH '90 WHICH, BY MY IGNORANCE, HAD NOT BEEN BACKED UP TO A FLOPPY !). I HAVE DOWNLOADED THESE PROGRAMS SEVERAL TIMES AND THE ONLY RESPONSE WHEN RUNNING "SETUP" NOW IS THAT BOTH "P2" AND "P3" ARE INVALID STRINGS. I HAVE CHECKED EACH DIGIT, ONE BY ONE, AND THEY ARE EXACTLY AS RAY'S ITEM SHOWS. WHAT COULD I BE DOING WRONG ? PLEASE GIVE ME SOME GUIDANCE ON LOADING AND USING THESE PROGRAMS. I STARTED OUT BY EDITING "P1" TO CHANGE IT TO A 48 PROGRAM WHICH THE MACHINE ACCEPTED SO I DON'T THINK THE PROBLEM IS THERE. "P2" AND "P3" ARE ENTERED EXACTLY LIKE THE LISTING SHOWS AS ONE LONG LIST BEGINNING AND ENDING WITH " AND THE <CR><LF> COMBINATIONS HAVE BEEN REMOVED. --- LARRY MORTON (805) 733-4275

Don't remove the <CR><LF>'s. Download the programs in HP48 translate mode 3. (The original posting of ->ASC and ASC-> was a directory containing P1, P2, P3, and SETUP, with a header to specify the 48 settings automatically. The text of that directory should have been downloaded unedited.) ASC-> assumes that its argument strings have a LF character as every 61st character. Bill Wickes HP Corvallis
