[comp.sys.handhelds] Calculator woes.

About 10 days ago I was doing some I/O with my 48 and a PC when I got the
battery low alarm. I thought "I can make one more small transfer, then
I'll put in the spare batteries." That transfer failed so in went the
batteries. Then my formerly trusty 48 refused to turn on. Panic!
I took the batteries out and tried to drain it down by shorting the battery
terminals which didn't work. Finally remembered the reset button under
the foot. That brought it back and it gave me the memory lost screen.
I could not get it to recover memory. Then I discovered problem #2 It
would not accept a transfer to restore my directories. It kept failing
partway through the the transfer and go to memory lost. After repeated
tries and self tests and calls to HP tech support it finally decided to
let me load it back up. Problem gone until yesterday when I turned it on
it says memory lost. I told it not to recover and it seemed ok but then
every so often some trivial command like drop would hang it up and I had to
ON-C to get it back. Then trying to load gave me the same failure as before.
Deciding to call HP again I tried one more time (after dozens of failures)
and it decides to start working. I called HP anyway and they said to send
it in and they would look at it and most likely send me a new replacement.
Wonderful! I am curious, has anyone else had this happen? I read this
group a lot and can't remember hearing about it. I have heard a lot of
complaints about "bugs" (which I never noticed in my rev c) but no
outright failures like this.
