I was able to get a distributor who said it'd be OK if I "only" ordered 200 of the Fujitsu, 2mm, 4 pin connectors. What I'm wondering is, should I bother getting any? Or does everybody who wanted a connector (more or less) now have one? (Or better yet, is there anyone else out there who wants to invest in 200 connectors? :-) ) A few facts: These connectors (which look just like the DuPont ones, I believe), are NOT quite as nice as the HP ones. They look just like the Molex connectors with the .1" spacing (well, almost), except that spacing is 2mm. They fit the serial port quite snugly, but, unlike the real HP connector which has a little nub on it to latch into the 48's serial port opening, you can't swing your 48 around your head with ones of these plugged in. The distributor said that he'd have a 4-6 week delay on getting them, since he didn't have any in stock (which is what I expected...). After considering the costs involved in doing all of this, the price per each would be about $2.50 (postage, printing, envelopes, and mailing labels add up fast!). There's also the options of getting already made cables using these connectors. At the moment, I can get 9 pin, 25 pin, and Mac connectors readily. The cost of completed cables would be about $12.50 each, including a PC Link disk for MS-DOS or Amiga computers. (If any one these things did happen, I could look into getting a Mac disk, too.) I'm open to opinions about this. The last round of connectors was pretty sad to say the least, and I'm not real thrilled with the thought of trying it again. As I said, if anyone else wants all the info on where to get 200 connectors, I'll be glad to provide it. I'm looking for letters on how people feel about this, and to attempt to gauge what kind of response I'd get. Please send response to kolstad@cae.wisc.edu. Thanks for your time. ---Joel Kolstad kolstad@cae.wisc.edu
