In response to a previous question about using non-commodore cassettes I offer the following. I have constructed an "interface" for my VIC using a small piece of vectorboard, 2 LED's an old earphone from a transistor radio, and a low voltage relay. The relay controls the cassette's motor, the LED's and earphone give audio and visual indication of data transfer. It works very well with data stored from my VIC but it is a problem trying to use a tape recorded on another machine or a factory tape. This leads to a big problem that I need help from the new. I am using the Commodore VICTERM program as a communication program but due to the non standard cassette I have great difficulty loading it. If I could save the program back out on cassette once properly loaded I would have no problem BUT due to the protection system used by commodore on their tapes I cannot save it. This seems to be due to a certain section of memory that the save routine will not access. If anyone has any ideas on how to get around this I would be most greatful. Also, if anyone has any experience with the commercial products that allow connection of any cassette to the VIC and 64 I would like to know how they perform.
