I just got an Equation Library Card, and I like it except for one very annoying "feature". Everytime you turn on the calculator, it spends some time doing something (I guess attaching the library). (It also spends some time when you turn the thing off, but that doesn't matter.) This wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fact that the keyboard strokes from that time are lost or never read. I'm used to using my calculator by hitting the ON key and immediately hitting the numbers and operations as one continuous stream of keys. This no longer works. I now have to wait about 1/2 a second before doing anything. Very annoying. It would be okay if the keyboard queue worked during that time. Also, a warning for others: DON'T PLAY THE MINEHUNT GAME. Don't even look at it if you value your time. I thought I had relatively good willpower when it came to computer games, but I played that darned game for hours, and I still catch myself doing it all the time. It's amazingly addictive for something so simple. Mark Adler madler@piglet.caltech.edu

Could someone post a "specific" list of what the card does (or does not) include -- for my purposes, the list would not have to be 100% complete. I just want to know more what I've been able to learn from HP adds. Of use to me would be applications to the following: s-plane, z-plane, electrical engineering equations, Digital Signal Processing, root-locus, control systems equations, electrical constants and units, physics contstants and units, etc.... The extra wakeup time Mark refers to is dependent on the total amount of memory plugged into the HP 48SX, and is not specific to the Equation Library. When the 48 is turned off, it computes checksums for all of memory; when it's turned on, it recomputes the checksums to find out whether memory contents have changed, requiring additional memory integrity checks and reconfiguration. The Equation Library does have configuration code that auto-attaches its libraries to the home directory, but the execution time is negligible.
