A couple of weeks ago I posted a summary of HP-28S FAST mode information. In this I wrote that I had never seen an HP-28S spontaneously drop out of FAST mode while running a program. Since then several people have written to me reporting that they have seen this happen - but not many people reported it. Maybe not many people write back on such topics, or maybe not many people use FAST mode - but it might be that only some HP-28Ss (how would YOU write the plural of HP-28S? ;-) - I usually use "HP-28S units" but maybe "HP-28Ss" is better) do drop out of FAST mode while running a program. Anyway, now we know it DOES happen. I suppose it may just be that the circuit which detects pressure on the ON key differs from one 28 to another, and on mine it is not particularly sensitive. I still do not know just WHY this circuit is there, since firm pressure on the ON key is detected by the main keyboard circuitry anyway. Any comments from our HP friends? Oh, and thanks to those people who did write to me. Wlodek Mier-Jedrzejowicz, Space & Atmospheric Physics, Imperial College, London
