First of all, I got my hp48sx in the mail yesterday, and that made me quite happy. Then, upon devouring the manuals in about two hours (I'm pretty good about that), I realized that when I posted my HP28 programs I used a format that is in no way compatible with the HP48sx special character format, and so I apologize to those who want to use them but are having trouble converting the format! BUT, a solution may be in store! The question is this: WHAT IS THE EASIEST WAY TO TRANSFER HP28 FILES TO THE HP48SX? CAN IT BE DONE THROUGH THE IR PORTS? If I can transfer them to the hp48sx, and then load them onto a computer, I will be more than happy to re-post them. But, I want this information for myself, of course. Secondly, can someone give me some e-mail explaining how one assigns funcitons to keys? That section of the manual seemed quite cryptic to me, especially when I tried to absorb it as quickly as I did (though the second look didn't help much). Finally, is HP the only source (or the best source) for the serial cable? What I mean by that is not, "should I buy directly from HP", but "should I buy an HP cable from Edu-Calc" (or the like)? And, where IS the best place to buy one? Thanks in advance from your help. Please e-mail all responses that don't seem useful to everyone... Michael C. By the way, the INPRT program is available on the HP board in the HP programs section, I believe, and post 887 or 888 on comp.sys.handhelds (c.s.h). >how do you assign functions to keys? O.K. it's very easy, the keyboard can be put into user mode, which is an entirely different set of keys. When you're in user-keys mode, each key has three functions, normal, left-shift, and right-shift, just like the standard keyboard. If a key does not have a function assigned to it, then it has the same function as the original keyboard. In other words, there are really three keyboards, each with the unshifted, left-shifted, right-shifted functions: standard, alpha, user. O.K. now, to assign keys, all you do is go to the custom menu, (blue modes) put the program, string, number, etc. in level 2, and the key# in lev. 1, and press ASN. the key# is simply the row # from the top, the column #, and whether the key is std, left or right. Like this: << "Hi there" 1 DISP >> :2 23.1 :1 ASN the 2 is the row, the 3 is the column, and 1 means non-shifted. 2 is left, and 3 is right. Now, you can back to the manual and read more about it. Hmm. that better do it.' >Is HP the best source for the serial cable? Well, you can either make your own, read the various postings on c.s.h or buy the one from HP, no real choice. Personally, I bought mine, and now I feel stupid, you can make one for real cheap. O.K. that's all folks.
