[comp.sys.handhelds] Upgrading

frechett@boulder.Colorado.EDU (-=Runaway Daemon=-) (12/30/90)

Here is what I just recieved in the mail today from HP.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your HP 48SX is scheduled to be exchanged during the month of February, 1991.
Please follow these instructions when seing your unit to Hewlett-Packard.

o You will NOT get the same calculator back. Save anything in memory that you
want to keep. HP will not be responsible for any information stored in your
  calculator.
o Remove plug-in cards.
o Send your calculator only. Do not send the softcase, manuals or accessories.
o Include the second page of this letter with your calculator.
o Pack the calculator in adequate protective packaging to prevent damage.
o Use the pre-printed address label to send your calculator. You will need to
pay postage for delivery to HP. (HP will pay return postage.) It is a good
  idea to insure your shipment.
o Mail your calculator so it arrives between 2/1/91 and 2/28/91.

Exchanges will start 2/1/91. After that date, you should recieve your new
units within 10 working days of the time we recieve your unit.

Thank you again fro your support or out products. If you need to speak with an
HP representative about your exchange, please contact Mary Jo Hornberger at
(503) 750-2574.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's it. There is a address label inside the envelope with the address that
the calculator needs to be sent to.. (ten days.. ug)
I look forward to getting the new machine as I have been playing with some
larger matrixes and it is pretty messed up. How many of you out there are
exchanging your machine?

Hi, just got my second letter from HP yesterday! It made me one heck of
a happy camper, too. Ten days? Yeah, but probably worth it. I'm going
to FEDEX mine so it gets there on the first so I don't have to wait the
extra 3 or 4 days. Anyone know about any possible backlight options?
That's all I want now...Scotty

What is this upgrade exactly? What version do you all have, and what's
the deal?

It is an upgrade from any version lower than D to an E version.
I have a version C ROM. Unfortunately, it sounds as though you will not
be able to upgrade if you have a version D.
The "deal" is that I send them my old calc and then send me a new one.
That's it. The only thing that will cost is for shipping.

    Hi all,

Could someone tell me up to what ROM version HP is
        upgrading for?
                                    Happy New Year!
