I just tried archiving my 48 onto my PC. The transfer proceeded okay and the PC beeped at the end of the transfer as normal. The 48 also beeped but when I looked at the screen it had the dreaded - Try to recover memory prompt. I hit YES but ended up with loads of dirs called d.01 .. d.09 etc. Fortunately the archive had worked and I was able to download it again. I have one 128K card and version D ROMS. I was using about 74K total. Does anyone have any idea what is going on!!!! I know that there used to be a bug associated with ver A ROMS and the clock, but I think my clock was off anyway.

I believe the clock bug is in all ROMS except maybe E. ====================================================================== ___ : ) : TIM STRONG <TDSTRONG@MTUS5> :-- _ _: _ _ MICHIGAN TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY : \ (_: (_: (_: : HOUGHTON, MICHIGAN ======================================================================

This will cause a crash on occasion when archiving. I believe this was fixed in E ROMs, but I have a D so I not sure. Tom Metcalf

I had the same thing happen to me last night. I'd forgotten to turn off the clock before archiving. Fortunately, RESTORE-ing memory wasn't bad -- but it sure takes a long time to restore 97 kb of stuff! I know you said you think the clock was off, but that's probably what happened to you. ---------- Regards Ray Depew IC's by Bill and Dave rrd@hpfitst1.hp.com

My 48SX (REV A) also died. The clock was OFF and the baud rate was 4800 baud! Figure that one out!

My rev A would die about 1/4 of the time doing archives until Bill Wickes told me that turning off the clock would cure the problem. I then added that to my backup program, so my archives are now *always* done with the clock off. I emphasize this because once, and only once, since I did that, an archive failed in precisely the same way. I estimate I had done about 30 or 40 archives in that time. I would conclude then that turning off the clock drastically reduces the probability of the that failure, but does not eliminate it completely. Mark Adler madler@pooh.caltech.edu

I have also had the same problem, I archived my HP memory onto my Mac, and my calculator bomembed and said memory lost. However, I did not have my clock on. I have a version D calculator. Any ideas, anyone? ----Falco

O.K>, for Joe and anyone else, this is how you get your version number(letter): Press On and D at the same time, this puts you in self-test mode, now press the delete key (DROP), this puts you in the memory scanner mode, now just press EVAL and voila. ---Falco
