Newsletter - February, 1991

JANUARY MEETING

The January meeting was the first meeting that the group has held at Hewlett-
Packard - Thanks HP!

The change in meeting location has meant that some members who could not
make it to Monash Uni, can now come to meetings at HP. It was good to see
some old members returning to the group meetings.

Most of the meeting was spent with members huddled around Mike Halprin's
laptop computer viewing a demonstration of HP's new Program Development
Link (PDL) for the HP48SX.

NEXT MEETING

Date: Tuesday 19 February, 1991
Time: 7:30pm
Location:	Hewlett-Packard Australia
31-41 Joseph Street Blackburn Vic 3130

VISITORS

One of the good points about belonging to a user group with national and
international contacts, is that no matter where you go, there are others
with a common interest that you can meet. During January, I received a
telephone call from Lee Woodriff (USA). To my surprise, the call was from
a local number. Lee was in Melbourne on an Australian tour. An instant
invitation, and a quick call around, resulted in Lee, and local member
Neil Woodhams coming to my home. We were all able to share and exchange a
few programs, ideas, and thoughts.

NEWSLETTER DISTRIBUTION

One of the discussion points of Lee's visit was the exchange of group
information. Melbourne is still remembered for its past contributions,
and there are many members around the world who are still interested in
our activities. Even if our newsletter is essentially a "meeting notice",
Lee suggested that other HPHH user groups would be interested in receiving
the newsletter - it lets them know that there is still activity in our
area, and that they are not alone.

At the last meeting, it was announced that future newsletters would be
distributed to international user groups in exchange for a return copy of
their local newsletters (if published).

========================================================================

HPHH Melbourne will distribute its newsletter to a representative of any
HPHH type user group. There is no cost to the receiving user group, except
that we would hope that they add HPHH Melbourne to the distribution list
of their newsletter (no matter how small!!) if published.

Any User group which would like to receive the HPHH Melbourne newsletter
should contact me or HPHH Melbourne with details.

The newsletter is primarily a "meeting notice" with a few extra notes.

At this stage, there is no provision to provide individual international
membership. The group is relying on members attending meetings for the lat
latest news. Also, we want to keep printing and distribution of the
newsletter as simple as possible. Also, there is no guarantee or promise
to meet a publishing schedule - we simply do what we can, when we can.
