Is this a "free lunch" or is there a pitfall? There is a pitfall. Basically, the hp28 architechture was not designed to handle that speed, which the 48sx is. The processor is the same but there are other things that might not like speed. What I have heard from various people on SPEED/FAST is that it is great but if you ever have calculations that absolutely must be correct, then don't use it as they might get corrupted. But for most things, it is perfect reasonable to use.. graphics and such. I have played with it a bit on my 28 and have found that in head to head tests with equivalent programs (pi generators) on the 48 that the 28 with FAST runs a bit faster than the 48. Of course for a pi generator I wonder if my data is correct. I never did actually go through and compare results closely. Personally, I like the program SPEED rather than FAST because SPEED lets me change the value from 1 to 15. 1 is really entertaining. It does fun things to the beep.. Hope that helps. ian -=Runaway Daemon=-
